Membership

Here at Mount Hermon, we believe that the Christian life lived in faithful devotion to Christ is lived in and through the local church. This is because the New Testament teaches that to be joined to Christ is to be joined to His people (1 Pt. 2:10). Membership in a local church is an assumed reality for Christians. This is both a high calling and a wonderful privilege. As the gathered people of God, the local church represents God to the world around it. As God's representatives on earth, each local church proclaims the Good News of His salvation through Jesus Christ. As a spiritual family, it is committed to care for the spiritual growth and well-being of every member. In short, the members of a local church commit to glorify God through their life together. If you don't have a church family, we would love for you to consider joining ours.

membership Process

  1. Membership Matters Seminar - We invite anyone interested in pursuing membership to participate. Spanning three 1-hour sessions on consecutive Sunday mornings, it is a time to learn who we are, what we believe, and how we think the Bible instructs us to follow Jesus together.
  2. Membership Interview - You’ll be invited to sit down with a pastor for a discussion about your life as a believer and why you’re pursuing membership. It’s not binding in any way, nor is it high pressure. We just want to get to know you and hear about your walk with Jesus!
  3. Recommendation to the Congregation - After the membership interview, if the elders feel confident that you do indeed believe the Gospel, and that you understand and affirm our church’s beliefs and practice, they will recommend you for membership to the congregation.
  4. Congregational Affirmation - The elders will share a brief summary of each candidate’s testimony and give the congregation the opportunity to ask questions or give feedback. Upon affirmation by the congregation, believers who have already been scripturally baptized will immediately be received into membership. Those who haven’t been baptized will become members upon their baptism (which we will joyfully schedule in the coming weeks!). By affirming each new member the congregation is both affirming that believer as a brother or sister in the Lord, and promising to live out the Christian life with them until we join another Gospel-preaching church, or until we see Jesus!
